LG Display Begins Mass Production of World's First Plastic E-Paper Display

LG Display, a leading manufacturer of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display, announced today that it has started mass production of the world's first plastic electronic paper display (EPD) for use in E-Books. The 6" XGA (1024 x 768), e-ink, plastic EPD is expected to revolutionize the E-Book market with its advancements in functionality and design.

"With the world's first plastic EPD, LG Display has once again proven its reputation for leadership and innovation with a product we believe will help greatly popularize the E-Book market," said Mr. Sang Duck Yeo, Head of Operations for LG Display's Mobile/OLED division. "Based on our success in mass-producing plastic EPD, we are excited as we look toward applying concepts from this experience to future developments like plastic OLED and flexible displays."

Moviegoers poured into North American multiplexes for the hotly anticipated futuristic saga The Hunger Games which obliterated the competition with a jaw-dropping $155M opening weekend shattering records in the process. The PG-13 pic based on the wildly popular young adult novel about a future where teenagers are forced by a totalitarian government to compete in a fight to the death generated the third biggest opening weekend of all-time and the best ever for both a non-sequel and for a non-summer release. The only two bigger debuts were last summer's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 with $169.2M including 3D surcharges and 2008's The Dark Knight with $158.4M. Both of those were released by Warner Bros. on the same mid-July weekend when all students were out of school. Landing in 4,137 theaters, Games averaged a scorching $37,467 per theater and was helped by 268 higher-priced IMAX venues.

Windows 8 Launches in October, x86 and ARM Simultaneously

We know from a slightly older article, that the first variants of Windows will be released to market some time in Q4-2012. A new report by Bloomberg pin-points that to October, exactly 3 years after the market-launch of Windows 7. Further, Microsoft should launch Windows 8 for both x86 and ARM machine architectures around the same time, in what could be a breather for tablet and low-cost netbook designers. Despite that, there are fewer ARM devices running Windows 8, which will launch around that time, than x86 notebooks/PCs. With an October 2012 launch Microsoft should be able to target shoppers in the crucial winter shopping season, in mature markets, according to Bloomberg Analysts.

Cooler Master's Silent Pro M series has been around for a long time and it was time for a fresh series to take over, so the M2 was released as replacement. Currently the Silent Pro M2 ranks third in CM's PSU series portfolio, below Silent Pro Hybrid and Silent Pro Gold. The most noteworthy difference of M2, in characteristics, to the two aforementioned series is the efficiency certification which dropped to silver and bronze levels in order to retain lower prices.

The new M2 units come in six flavors with capacities ranging from 420W to 1000W. The two stronger units with 1000W and 850W have Silver efficiency while all others are Bronze. Here we should note that at the time of the review no member of the M2 series was officially certified but we are pretty sure that this is just a matter of time.

Gigabyte HD 7770 OC

A few weeks ago AMD launched their Radeon HD 7700 Series. The cards use the all-new Cape Verde graphics processor which is based on AMD's new GCN Graphics Core Next architecture that promises increased performance and lower power draw.

Cape Verde is a downscale from the "Tahiti" silicon, on which higher Radeon HD 7900 series parts are based. There are fewer number of redundant components, so Cape Verde is left functionally-identical to Tahiti, but is smaller, built for more affordable graphics cards. Cape Verde also retains the basic hierarchy of the architecture as implemented in Tahiti.

Gigabyte's HD 7770 OC is a custom implementation of the HD 7770. It features a massively increased GPU clock speed of 1100 MHz. Memory clock has been increased too, to 1250 MHz.
