AMD has a golden opportunity to cut holdings in the processor market with relatively powerful integrated graphics parts. This concept is called Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) and began with processors Llano and Brazos, the former designed for the broad middle class.
On May 15, AMD released the successor to Llano, known under the code name Trinity. This time it is updated processor cores to "Piledriver", the second-generation Bulldozer architecture. Also treated to the powerful graphics of VLIW4, which is recognized by the Radeon HD 6000-series.
Now, reports Digitimes to Trinity for desktop computers will take until August. Next in time is instead processors intended for "normal" laptops. Then it's time for extra low-power versions of ultra-portable models onwards the summer months.
For desktop computers there is talk among other things, 5800K-A10, A10-5700, A8-5600K, A8-5500 and new models in the A6 and A4 series. The latter is known as Weatherford and Richland. All made of GLOBALFOUNDRIES in 32 nanometers.
