Apple may Introduce cheaper Macbook Air

Computer manufacturers release the thin and light notebooks on the assembly line, but so far it looks like consumers choose other models. The main reason is the relatively high prices that, combined with the uncertain economic situation means that customers are failing.
Intel's antidote is to effectively subsidize computers that are built according to the concept Ultra Book and the processor giant has designed a fund of 300 million dollars for the purpose, not the least momentum within.

This can now get Apple to take action. According to Digitimes, a cheaper version of the Macbook Air to be on track to meet the threat of Ultra Book. The source says that Apple files on a model for $799 which will be released in the third quarter.

This compares to today's Macbook Air, which costs from about $1363 and $1759 for 11 and 13 inches. Such a model would be a direct threat to the cheaper Ultra Book and put further pressure on Intel to bring prices down on ultraportable laptops.
